Did you know that April 25th marks the Italian liberation from Nazi occupation? We invite you to join us for a movie night and discussion on resistance.
Exactly, as Denmark, Italy had its resistance movement to the Nazi-fascist occupation and its Liberation Day too! To honor this day, a group of Italian migrants in Copenhagen has organized a social gathering for anyone interested in learning more about Liberation Day or celebrating it alongside their Italian neighbors. In Italy, this day is typically marked by singing partisan songs and enjoying simple food. So whether you're Danish or from anywhere else, we invite you to join us for a movie night and discussion on resistance!
Programme:
6.00 PM: We'll gather at Union with an introductory speech for the evening.
6.15 PM: We'll enjoy a traditional dish, pastasciutta antifascista (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pastasciutta_antifascista), which you're sure to love. We kindly ask for a contribution of 50 DKK to cover the cost of ingredients, with any surplus funds going to support children in Gaza through the collective Building Communities, which manages the bar at Union. 6:45 PM: We'll screen the movie "Bandite," which explores the role of women in resistance movements in Italy. The film will be shown in Italian with English subtitles. Following the screening, there will be a discussion on the role of women in past and present resistance movements, followed by an open dialogue.
8:00 PM: we'll conclude the more serious part of the evening with a group rendition of Bella Ciao, before transitioning to an enjoyable night filled with affordable drinks from the bar provided by Building Communities and music until 11 PM!
Movie: BANDITE
In the context of the Italian Resistance, the documentary investigates the experience of women who fought in partisan formations from 1943 to 1945, revolutionising the role assigned to them by patriarchy and becoming protagonists of history.
Women from different social, cultural and political backgrounds, express in a choral narrative the awareness of a struggle that goes beyond the liberation from Nazi-Fascism and that marks a decisive moment in the path of emancipation first and liberation later.
The experiences of these rebellious women are interwoven with the interventions of historians and their research and analysis of gender, clandestine publications and documents of the time, and archive images, thus delineating the historical context in which their struggle developed and the reflection of it in today's world.
Partisan women gave birth to the Republic, won citizenship, but can the goals they pursued: full equality, real equality of opportunities and expectations; be considered achieved today?
